COVID-19 EMERGENCY RESPONSE FUND
India is in the throes of a catastrophic second wave of COVID-19 that has severely impacted lives of millions across the country. The dramatic surge in new infections since March 2021, has overwhelmed health systems, resulting in acute shortage of necessary life saving supplies like oxygen, ICU beds, medicines, and vaccines and healthcare staff.
To fast-track India’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SAMRIDH Healthcare Blended Financing Facility, an initiative supported by U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), announces a new funding opportunity – USAID’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund. Through this initiative, SAMRIDH, in technical collaboration with premier institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, the National Health Authority and NATHEALTH, is mobilizing financial assistance to healthcare enterprises and innovators to support scaling up of market-based health solutions that can address the emergency needs of the pandemic.
Given the severity of the crisis and the urgency to act, SAMRIDH is able to offer emergency funding to healthcare enterprises, augmenting their capacity for production and supply of high impact health solutions for COVID-19. This will be complemented with a strong technical assistance and capacity building component, enabling enterprises to receive commercial investments through blended financing solutions, for long-term sustainability, expansion, and to build surge capacity for any subsequent waves of the pandemic.
We are inviting applications from healthcare enterprises and innovators that offer scalable market solutions to supplement India’s COVID-19 response, augment health infrastructure, and build the capacity of healthcare workers.
Addressing the scale of the challenges triggered by the most recent COVID-19 crisis calls for collective and concerted action. We are inviting businesses, corporations, foundations, impact investors, and other organizations to join us in our mission to improve the supply of high-impact health solutions in India, including oxygen delivery systems, cold chain storage for vaccines, low-cost test kits, and other facility and community- based interventions.
Together with our partners, we will support healthcare enterprises with grants and other financing options, such as low or no interest loans, augmenting their capacity for production and supply of life saving health solutions for COVID-19. To further strengthen the impact of our initiative, we will leverage a strong network of partners to provide emergency critical care and medical supplies to 1000+ health facilities, diagnostic and pharma chains, reaching more than 10 million people.
