USAID’s CoVLEx Initiative

SAMRIDH Healthcare Blended Financing Facility, supported by USAID, participated in the Learning Exchange Forum #3 under the City-to-City COVID-19 Vaccination Learning Exchange (CoVLEx) initiative. This session was hosted by Population Services International (PSI) and focused on COVID-19 Vaccine Procurement and Supply Chain Management. The City-to-City CoVLEx initiative aims to build a global COVID-19 vaccination knowledge management platform between India and the Global South to facilitate sharing and learning on COVID-19 vaccination and shape the discourse on pandemic response.

Panelists from leading organizations in the health domain such as WHO, USAID, IPE Global, PATH, BMGF and UNICEF came together to share their perspectives and experiences on vaccine development, distribution and delivery in India. SAMRIDH leveraged this opportunity to highlight the role of the private sector in ensuring last mile delivery of vaccines to the most vulnerable. Dr. Manjunath Shankar, Head – Pre Award and Technical Team, SAMRIDH, showcased SAMRIDH’s support to three entities in the vaccine distribution and supply chain management space – Blackfrog Technologies, PLUSS, and AWL India – to demonstrate the role blended finance can play in enabling private enterprises gain access to affordable capital to scale while mitigating risks to financial institutions.

Other highlights of the discussion:

  • The need to ensure vaccine equity through strengthening vaccine procurement and supply chain management for last mile delivery to the underserved.
  • Learnings from the previous COVID-19 waves and the role of vaccinations in increasing resilience and preparedness for future outbreaks in India.
  • Leveraging technology and innovations for vaccine delivery and advocacy.
  • Using Nairobi, Hanoi and New Delhi as case stories to highlight interventions, challenges, and best practices in vaccine procurement and management.
